Why Emotional Regulation Matters

Big feelings are a natural part of development, but learning how to understand, label and manage them takes time, patience and support. Emotional regulation is a skill that develops through positive experiences, gentle guidance and connection with trusted, grounded adults.

By introducing simple mindfulness practices, such as calming breathing techniques, recognising emotions and using positive affirmations, we can help children build emotional awareness, confidence and resilience.

These strategies empower children to better understand their feelings, develop healthy ways to respond to challenges and feel supported through life's ups and downs. As children develop these skills, they build a stronger foundation for learning, positive relationships and emotional wellbeing, both in the classroom and beyond.

Kind words about Archie

Loved by the experts

Maggie Dent
“So many picture books come my way and some have the story, the quality and something special, and Archie the Amazing Axolotl is just that. It captures the creative potential of individuals who are a bit different. Such a cheerful story that captures how kids have different brains that work in different ways. Great for homes, ECAs and primary schools.”

Emily Hanlon
“This book is all about how our brains work. Archie struggles a little with impulse control and excitability but instead of trying to change it's about celebrating those traits and using them to our advantage. LOVE! This book is also great for kids starting school.”

“My son and I read Archie the Amazing Axolotl this morning. It is such a wonderful reminder that all brains work differently. It was a beautiful book.”

Sarah Bolitho
“A beautiful way of celebrating, not changing, minds of all kinds. As a play therapist, I support kids to make sense of their internal world & help them understand how they can best fit in. Lana has done an amazing job of that in a fun, kid friendly way.”

Lily Bodenham
“From an OT perspective this message [of how the brain works] is so important for the kids who we support. Normalising curious energetic brains and not trying to ‘fix’ them.”

“Archie the Amazing Axolotl celebrates how we all think a little bit differently. It is a really beautiful book, especially if you have kiddos whose brains work a little bit differently and act in different ways. It really is about celebrating our uniqueness!”

My 3YO has been navigating so big emotions with the transition to kindergarten, and the Affirmation Cards have been such a wonderful tool to help him manage. His favourite is the lion. I highly recommend these cards for any other parents looking for a great way to help manage emotions and support little ones on their journey.

We received our Busy Books today and it was a total hit! It's amazing. Our son sat there for an hour so focused and excited over all the different activities. This is HUGE for him (and me) as he is a very active 3YO boy and to see him so engaged for that long was so encouraging. It was such an amazing way to bond together while learning. I loved it as much as he did. Thank you for creating something so wonderful for our kids!

I purchased the Ultimate Busy Little Bee Book for my twin 3YO boys. I have been blown away with how long they have sat there still and engaged with each activity. Brilliant idea! Everyone should be using these Busy Books!
